Also, do people like daily archives where you can click to see just that post, or monthly archives? I'm open to input on the matter.

NEW explanations for the Adventures of VBM!

Explanations

Coming soon for all the episodes! Permanent link to these explanations under "Science Stuff".

Episode 007:

Alright. SO. The song titles are taken from various concepts in physics and the nature of light - "Double Slit Experiment" comes from Young's Double Slit Experiment; "Corpuscules" are another name for particles of light; and "Destructive Interference" is what happens when nodes and antinodes of light interact--they cancel each other out.

The punch line: "I'm sorry for letting you guys down". When electrons fall from one orbit to a lower energy state/orbit, a photon of light is emitted from an atom. So the "weird bursts of light" were caused when the tech guy "let them [the ELECTRON GANG] down".

That's the basics for this episode, further questions just post 'em!

Episode 006:

Alright, so when two point sources of light are "in sync" they create an interference pattern, something like this. This has to do with the "crests and troughs" in lightwaves -- when a "crest" interacts with a crest, you get constructive interference and it builds. Same thing with multiple troughs, except it troughs(?bottoms out?) instead of builds. IF, however, a crest and a trough interact, you get destructive interference and they cancel each other out.

The punch line: Play on words between "in sync" point sources of light and the 90's boy band "N*SYNC".

Episode 005:

Oh man. I hope this one's straightforward. I mean, it's Bond.

The punch line: There's only one line, folks! And he's holding a martini glass! Pretty similar eh?

Episode 004:

Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle basically says that if you know the precise speed of an electron, you can't know its precise location simultaneously. You can calculate it's probable "address" in the electron clouds around the nucleus of an atom, but you can't know EXACTLY where it is.

The punch line: VBM can't find the electrons, because you can't find their precise locations.
